About ARMS |
Welcome to the official website of the ANU Rural Medical Society (ARMS). Founded by the first cohort of post-graduate medical students from the Australian National University (ANU) in 2004, ARMS currently has around 160 members. Our club consists of student members from all years interested and committed in spreading the message of rural health. We aim to promote diversity and to serve and represent the general interests of our members in all aspects of rural and remote medicine. A number of social events are held throughout the year
including the annual ski trip, bushdance and various barbeques. We
coordinate a number of educational events from the organising of guest
speakers to numerous clinical skills trips around the greater
ARMS achieves these goals by building and maintaining strong relationships with other rural health agencies such as the NRHN (National Rural Health Network), NRHA (National Rural Health Alliance) and ACRRM (Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine). ARMS membership offers students the opportunity to go on subsidised trips away to the country, to meet and talk with rural practitioners and locals, and apply their clinical skills in a rural health care environment. ARMS
also acts to bring together students from other years and supports
students studying in rural locations. ARMS has firmly established
itself within the ANU medical school as a central hub for medical
students interested in seeking positive experiences in rural health and
hopes to continue providing these fun opportunities.
